What is health coaching?

As a health coach, also known as wellness coach, I’m trained to help you make changes to improve your overall health and happiness. I do this by working with you to: 

  • define your vision for what you want to achieve and experience 
  • identify how you can get there using your strengths 
  • collaborate with you to develop realistic and achievable plans to reach your goals
  • support your progress and celebrate your success
Why should I work with a health coach to prepare for a vacation?

As a health coach, I will work with you to figure out how best to simulate activities you’ll do on vacation before you leave, so you can be ready to really enjoy them when you get to your destination. 

As a health coach, I’ll help you find the time and energy to add more activity into the weeks before you leave, and consult with you on what to bring on your trip. 

As you work with me, you’ll get more comfortable with the activities you have planned, and gain confidence.

Is health coaching the same as personal training?

Health coaching is different than personal training in a few ways:

  • Health coaching is a collaborative approach that helps you achieve your goals through activities you’re excited to do. Health coaches don’t dictate workout plans – they co-develop a plan with you that aligns with your preferences and interests.
  • Health coaching can be done via phone or video chat, or in person, since the purpose is to create goals and plans that you will act on independently. There’s no whistle or stopwatch involved in health coaching.
  • As a health coach, I’ll work with you holistically on your well-being and lifestyle, including physical activity, eating habits, stress factors and more. Often the factors that impact your health are inter-related, so I’ll help you figure out how to make changes across different parts of your life.
Why do you offer a free 30-minute trip consultation session?

I offer the initial consultation for free so you can get an idea of how I can help you before you commit to a package. You probably do a lot of research before you decide if a trip location is where you want to go – this is a way for you to research me!

What will I get out of working with you?

When you work with me, you’ll get personalized attention, guidance and accountability to help you take the steps that are best for you to reach your goals. My clients tell me it’s especially helpful to meet with me weekly to review their progress, learn what’s working (or not), and adjust what they’re doing to stay on track. There’s lots of free information online about how to get more active and fit – why should I pay for a health coach?

Yep, there’s a ton of information out there – it can be conflicting and confusing, and it may not be backed by proof. You can spend hours trying to sort it all out, and then figuring out how you’re going to actually do it is a whole other exercise (literally and figuratively).

A health coach helps you home in on the activities and opportunities that will work best for you – which means you’re far more likely to enjoy it AND stick with it!
