What is pre-trip coaching?

Pre-trip adventure coaching helps you prepare physically and mentally for your adventure trip. As a certified personal trainer and coach with decades of experience in outdoor adventures and traveling, I’ll help you

  • assess your current activity level compared with the trip itinerary
  • create a customized training plan 
  • collaborate with you to develop a realistic and achievable schedule to get ready for your adventure
  • overcome obstacles and challenges that may come up along the way
  • support your progress and celebrate your success!

Why should I work with a coach to prepare for a trip?

As a coach, I will guide you on how best to prepare for activities you’ll do on your trip before you leave, so you can be ready to really enjoy them when you get to your destination. 

We’ll collaborate on how you can find the time and energy to add more activity into the weeks before your trip. I’ll help keep you on track through accountability and encouragement. 

If you have challenges or setbacks along the way – such as illness, injury, work, family commitments – we’ll figure out how to overcome them so you can still be ready to make the most out of your trip.

Through all of this, you’ll gain strength, stamina and confidence for your trip, and for whatever you want to do in the future!

Is pre-trip coaching the same as personal training?

Pre-trip coaching is different than personal training in a few ways:

  • Pre-trip coaching is a collaborative approach that helps you prepare physically and mentally for your upcoming adventure. Because let’s be honest, the physical prep is only half of what will make the trip amazing.
  • Pre-trip coaching can be done via phone or video chat, since the purpose is to create goals and plans that you will act on independently. There’s no whistle or stopwatch involved in pre-trip coaching.
  • Since I’m also a certified personal trainer (ACSM), you’ll get appropriate guidance on training plans and exercises that will get you ready for the activities you will be doing on your trip.
Why do you offer a free 30-minute trip consultation session?
I offer the initial consultation for free so you can get an idea of how I can help you before you commit to a package. You probably do a lot of research before you decide if a trip location is where you want to go – this is a way for you to research me!
What will I get out of working with you?

When you work with me, you’ll get personalized attention, guidance and accountability to help you take the steps that are best for you to get ready for your trip.

There’s lots of free information online about how to prepare for a trip – why should I pay for a coach?

Yep, there’s a ton of information out there – it can be conflicting and confusing, and it may not be backed by proof. You can spend hours trying to sort it all out, and then figuring out how you’re going to actually do it is a whole other exercise (literally and figuratively).

As a coach, I help you by creating a customized plan based on where you and and where you’re going that will work best for you – which means you’re far more likely to enjoy it AND stick with it!
